Make Room for Love by Darcy Liao is a wonderful and beautiful story. I decided to read this book for a few reasons. First, the cover drew me in as well as the name. Second, is that I love to read, especially books about women loving women. The third is that I haven’t read a book with a trans character before. I truly loved this book and was captivated by the characters and their story.
A beautiful love story about finding your confidence and learning about yourself, without fearing being vulnerable.. Isabel and Mira’s paths cross at one point and there begins the journey they each continue on. They learn from each other in regards to what they want out of life. I truly love the message of accepting who you are and loving who you love.
Darcy did a fabulous job in the telling of this story, I fell in love with the characters and the pacing of this story was done so well. I felt the emotions of the characters as I was reading, which was something that I look for in a book. The character development was amazingly done, they way each character evolves on their own journey. I truly loved learning about Mira and her journey through life. I also enjoyed learning about Isabel and how she ended up the way she did. There are so many scenes that I loved, but I don't want to give away any spoilers.
To be honest, this book made me think about a lot of things. I honestly did know a lot about trans women and this book gave me some insight. I also didn't know much about Asian culture in families, for which I am glad I got to learn more about. I was able to relate to what I was reading, and noticed that they have similarities to my Hispanic culture.
This is a book I will definitely read again, especially based on the characters. These characters were so amazing, that I was sad when the book came to an end. I will say that I was happy that I got to read the bonus epilogue which made my heart smile. I so badly want to find out how Isabel and Mira end up after the end of the book. I will say that if you are a lover of reading stories about women who love women, or just a wonderful love story, please pick up a copy of Make Room for Love. You won’t regret it.
