Barbara Winkes is a wonderful author who writes suspenseful stories. I came across her stories on Amazon as I was browsing for new authors and books to read. As I read this book, I have to say this was one of the most suspenseful stories I have read in a while. It had me on the edge of my seat. The way she tells the story and describes the different details. It is an amazing story and I am so excited to start the second book in this series. I was asked to read this book by the author for an honest review. So, let me tell you a little about the story without giving away any of the good parts and maybe after you read this, you will go pick up your copy of this suspenseful story.

The story takes place mostly in the police station and of course looking for this serial abductor/killer. The driving force behind this story is that as much as the police know about the crimes, the homicide detective and police officer’s interactions bring a deeper and more in-depth look at the situation. I also found that the descriptions and details, no matter as to how small were very important to the story.

Ellie Harding is a single police officer, who is determined to be a detective. After she is attacked on her way home after a night out with her colleagues. She becomes part of the task force to find a serial abductor/killer. She will get the chance to work close to Detective Carpenter. She has noticed the way the detective has been looking at her, but Ellie also knows that she is in a relationship. But, that doesn’t stop how she feels about Detective Jordan Carpenter. What will she do about her feelings, will she act on them or respect the relationship the detective is in?

Detective Jordan Carpenter is in an unhappy relationship with an FBI profiler. Jordan realizes that the relationship is not working. So, one night when she is out with colleagues, she notices the young police officer Ellie. She has this attraction to the her. Jordan doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to being faithful. Temptation is a cruel mistress, that can get you into some serious trouble. What will Jordan do about the way she feels about Ellie? Will she follow her heart?

While on the job Jordan and Ellie must work together to help find these women who have been abducted by this mad man. As they get closer, things start to make sense to Ellie about her attacker. But when Jordan goes missing for a few days, how far will Ellie go to find her?

I found this story to be remarkably suspenseful. I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it. It literally had me on the edge of my seat. I loved the interaction between Jordan and Ellie, especially when it came to how they felt about each other. They have such wonderful chemistry and the emotional moments they shared were done so nicely. I thought being able to see the relationship between Jordan and her girlfriend really allowed you to understand why Jordan felt that the relationship was over. The interactions between all the characters was amazingly done. The tone of each character was unique and the pace of the story was wonderfully done. I am hoping that everyone who reads this review will want to read the book and the rest of the books in the series.
